Choosing the Right Typeface for Your Brand

The font you choose for your brand can have a significant impact on how your brand is perceived by your audience. The right font can help you convey your message and personality effectively, while the wrong one can definitely break it. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at how to choose the right font for your brand.

Picking the right typeface for your brand can be stressful not only for you, but also to some designers. Here are the InnCredible Studio top Tips & Tricks when choosing a typeface. Here’s a recipe from us what to consider when selecting a typeface.

What’s the right typeface for my brand?

  1. Brand Alignment – for a Sage Brand Archietype I’ve decided to go with something that looks exceptionally sharp specifically when bold. So I was on the hunt for a modern Grotesque typeface. Since ChatGPT arrived I also automatically consider that there will be plenty of text so anything that requires additional hustles is out of the list.
  2. Mood & Message – We keep it simple. Make a wish – it’s Design Christmas.
  3. Usability – Will be used for amazing design on different products so versatility is a must – weights, consistency
  4. Accesibility and Inclusivity – the typeface should reduce reading tension by having easy to read open letter forms, large x-height and plenty of weights to create visual hierarchy
  5. Scope – cover all design needs digital and imprint
  6. Licensing – as of now doesn’t matter, but preferably free
  7. Language – many languages
  8. Sizes – decent size so it enables us to use more variations with no speed implications

Conclusion:

So after considering the list above I selected Plus Jakarta Sans it covers the whole list and it stands out amongst my other selected typefaces with it’s size. This allows me to add more variations at no cost, or looked from another perspective, I don’t have to pick between typography and performance.

Plus Jakarta Pro is a sans-serif font that is designed with a clean, modern look. While it is not specifically marketed as a font for individuals with any specific visual ability, it does have some features that may make it easier to read.

Considerations when selecting a typeface

Brand

Before you start looking for a typeface, you need to have a clear understanding of your brand identity, including your brand’s values, personality, and mission. This will help you identify the typeface that best matches your brand’s overall look and feel.

Mood & Message

The typeface you choose should match the mood and message you want to convey to your audience. For example, a bold and modern typeface may be suitable for a tech brand, while a more traditional and elegant typeface may be better suited for a luxury brand or a surgeon.

Usability

Consider the functionality and versatility of the typeface you choose. Does it work well for headlines and body copy? Does it have a wide range of weights and styles? A typeface that is functional and versatile will give you more flexibility to create a consistent and cohesive brand identity.

Accesibility

It’s important to consider the scope and usability of the typeface you choose. Will it be used for print, web, or both? Is it legible and readable in various sizes and contexts? Is it accessible to individuals with visual impairments? Answering these questions will help you choose a typeface that works well for your brand in different contexts.

Scope

It’s important to consider the scope and usability of the typeface you choose. Will it be used for print, web, or both? Is it legible and readable in various sizes and contexts? Is it accessible to individuals with visual impairments? Answering these questions will help you choose a typeface that works well for your brand in different contexts.

Licensing

When choosing a font for your brand, it’s important to consider the licensing requirements. Some fonts may be free for personal use but require a license for commercial use. Others may have specific usage restrictions that you need to be aware of. It’s important to read the licensing agreements carefully to ensure that you’re using the font legally.

Languages

Brands operating internationally require a typeface that is legible in multiple languages. It’s important to ensure that the typeface is compatible with character sets of languages the brand may be translated into.

Sizes

Too many font variations can slow a website down by increasing the overall file size of the webpage, leading to longer loading times. However, better optimized fonts allow us to use variations without sacrificing speed by reducing the file size of the fonts and optimizing their loading times. This ensures a faster browsing experience for users while still allowing for a variety of font styles to be used.
